In what was a day of pullouts with Great Britian opting not to be part of the European Union, Salgoacar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa announced their decesion to not ply their trade in the I-League.
Reacting to the decision to pull out, former Dempo, East Bengal and India coach Armando Colaco said: "This is a sad day for Goan football. The I-League is a platform for youngsters to showcase their talent and withdrawing from the I-league means things have not been good between the AIFF and the two clubs. I am shocked to say the least."
Colaco added that the decision to withdraw from the league will trigger unemployment for players.
"It is an extremely shocking news for Goan football with Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa deciding not to take part in the country's top division league and it will create unemployment for Goan footballers," said Joseph Dias, vice president of Salcete Football Club.
Meanwhile, patron of Churchill Bros FC, Churchill Alemao said: "My daughter's statement stands vindicated. The pull-out by both these teams have spelt doom for football. Football is finished, both in Goa and in the rest of the country. It only proves that ISL is a Tamasha. Nobody supported my stand earlier. Had I received support, football would have not plunged to such depths like today.”
