LS results to decide fate of ministers, Cong turncoats, INDIA bloc leaders in South Goa

MARGAO
Apart from the Congress and BJP candidates, June 4 Lok Sabha election result will mean a lot for a host of key political players across the political spectrum in South Goa.

In fact, the election results will decide the fate of many as six Cabinet Ministers hailing from South Goa, besides Congress turncoats as far as the ruling BJP is concerned. The election will also decide the fate of the INDIA bloc leaders, including Opposition leader Yuri Alemao, GPCC chief Amit Patkar, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai, besides the two AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva.

Take note, even before the EVMs could be taken up for counting on June 4, the ruling camp has been hit by speculations over which Minister will exit to make way for ruling MLAs, who perform exceedingly well in the Lok Sabha polls.

That Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, who represents Canacona constituency, has gone to the public by stating that he would not shy away from assuming Ministerial berth has left tongues wagging in the ruling camp.

The election will also decide the fate of the Congress turncoats from the South Goa, including Salcete lone Minister representing Nuvem, Aleixo Sequeira, besides Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and Sankalp Amonkar.

The results will also shed light whether the coming together of the Opposition parties under the banner of INDIA bloc had an impact on the ground, which will be a barometer for the continuance of the Alliance, at least in Goa.

In this contest, political observers say the role played by the Aam Aadmi Party and the regional Goa Forward party in support of the Congress will be known on Tuesday when the EVMs are opened for counting. While the Congress is expecting a huge and unassailable lead for Captain Viriato Fernandes in AAP represented Benaulim and Velim segments, the main Opposition party hopes the support extended by Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai will help the party to maintain the vote lead in Fatorda.
