LS Speaker Birla stresses youth role in nation building

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted the crucial role of young legislators in nation building and achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047 during the First Conference of Zone VII of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region held in Panaji.

Addressing the gathering, Speaker stressed the importance of sectors such as trade, tourism, urban development, environment, and connectivity, particularly for coastal states like Goa, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

Speaker described Goa as a vibrant hub of tourism, culture, and artistic expression, reflecting the dynamic spirit of the nation. “Legislative bodies play a central role in nation building and must actively contribute to achieving the goal of a developed India,” speaker emphasized.

Highlighting the importance of youth, he said that young legislators bear a greater responsibility in driving progress and fulfilling the aspirations of the people.

The conference was attended by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Goa legislative assembly speaker Ganesh Gaonkar, Maharashtra Chairman of MLC Professor Ram Shinde, Deputy Goa legislative assembly speaker Joshua Dsouza, and other legislators. 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called for greater collaboration between Goa, Gujarat, and Maharashtra to boost trade, tourism corridors, urban infrastructure, and coastal management. He also highlighted the expansion of digital governance in Goa, noting that over 240 services across 40 departments are now available online.

CM Sawant further encouraged youth participation in discussions on the theme “Role of Youth in Viksit Bharat.”
