Mad rush in Margao for Griha Aadhaar certificates continues

MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council passages were virtually inundated by women as they stood in a serpentine queue to lay their hands on income certificates to avail benefits of the Griha Aadhaar scheme.

Some of the women were found standing in the queue as early as 7 am. The rush was so huge that MMC Chairperson Pooja Naik had to come down from her chamber to streamline the system of issuing the certificates.

The Chairperson and councillor Doris Texeira were seen distributing tokens to the women standing in queue, making it clear only those with the tokens will get the income certificates.

The MMC Chairperson later told the media that the government should immediately issue an order extending the deadline for the beneficiaries to submit the forms by another month.

“The work of issuing income certificates to the Griha Aadhaar beneficiaries has now been entrusted to the civic body by the government, which has affected other works,” she said. The extension of the deadline will help control the situation, she added. CO Agnelo Fernandes informed that MMC has decided to issue the income certificates based on an undertaking by the applicant stating her income. MMC reserves the right to withdraw the certificate if documents are obtained by misrepresenting facts, he said.
