MMC notice to N-Goa vehicle owner for garbage dumping in Fatorda

MMC notice to N-Goa vehicle owner for garbage dumping in Fatorda

MARGAO
Restaurant waste dumping at an unauthorized place in the jurisdiction of Margao Municipal Council by a pick-up van, whose owner’s address is mentioned as Grandemorod, Saligao-Calangute, has raised a question or two in the corridors of the Margao civic body.

While the MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has issued a notice to the owner of the vehicle for illegal dumping of hotel waste at Fatorda, questions have been raised whether the pick-up van had brought the restaurant waste from North Goa to Margao or was the pick-up van engaged by restaurant owners in and around Margao to dispose of the waste in the MMC jurisdiction.

The CO has directed the pick-up van owner to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 within a period of 10 days or show cause why action should not be taken again him as per the provisions of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

Personal hearing of the matter has been fixed on November 12 at 10.30 am in the chamber of the Chief Officer.

In the notice, the CO stated that it has been brought to his notice that the pick-up disposed of around 20 bags of garbage and the same looked like restaurant waste.

When contacted, Agnelo said whether the owner had transported the restaurant waste from Calangute or it was brought from a restaurant in Margao’s neighbourhood will be known after the owner appears before him for the hearing.
