The Maina-Curtorim police have arrested three persons and seized a truck in connection with illegal sand mining at Macazana.
Acting on a complaint, the police went into action and managed to seize the truck laden with sand, besides a jeep, at Muxim in Macazana.
South Goa SP, Pankaj Kumar Singh, informed that the police acted after receiving information about the illegal sand mining.
Accordingly, a case under section 379 read with section 34 of the IPC and Section 4 and 21 of the Mines and Mineral Development and Regulation Act, 1957 was registered.
The police later arrested three persons for alleged theft of sand/mineral worth Rs 10,000 reportedly from the river without any lease or license from the competent authority.
The names of the arrested persons were provided as Anthony Hilario and Rosario Hilario and Amar Kulal.
