MARGAO
Addressing the media, Congress general secretary Pratima Coutinho and South Goa District Mahila President Savitri Kavlekar condemned the demand made by Sadhvi and demanded action against her. They demanded to know why Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who is also the Home Minister, has not made any statement on Sadhvi’s demand while expressing surprise that none of the minority MLAs in the BJP-led government have uttered a word on the issue.
Pratima made it clear that those who are fomenting trouble across the country need not come down to Goa and tell Goans what they should eat and dress. “She is no one to demand that the government should come out with a law to hang those consuming beef,” Pratima said.
She trained her guns at the minority MLAs supporting the Parrikar-led government, demanding to know their silence on the issue. “Goans have been living in communal harmony over the decades. We do not want people like Sadhvi to give a lecture for Goans,” Pratima said.
Savitri Kavlekar said the statement made by Sadhvi is a clear indication that they want people of Goa, including Hindus, Christians and Muslim to fight with each other.
“We fail to understand why these people from outside the State come here and make such demands. No one has the right to impose their views on the eating habits of the people,” Savitri added.
while demanding that the government initiates action against those trying to disturb peace and communal amity in the State.
