The Mahila Congress on Friday gave a clarion call to the people of Goa to join the party, with chief Adv Pratima Coutinho saying that the party was “like a phoenix” and would rise.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters, Coutinho said that it was time for common men and women who were “like minded” to join the party in large numbers and help build the party again.
“We’re the Grand Old Party. We’ve stood tall in the past and are here to stay,” the Congress leader, who was denied a ticket by the party for the Lok Sabha elections, told the media.
Coutinho insisted that it was up to the people of Goa now to analyse the behaviour of the BJP as well as the 10 former Congress MLAs who had merged with the ruling party.
She also opined that the party was in desperate need of a restructuring. “We need a vibrant president and a vibrant Leader of the Opposition. We need vibrant leaders. We do have them, but we need them even more now,” she said.
Coutinho said that she was in-touch with Curtorim MLA Aleixo Lourenco and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and that everyone was waiting for the Central leadership to take decisions now.
“We’re waiting to see if any changes are made, and we are ready for them. This is not about any individual but about the party,” she said.
