Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday welcomed the decision of the BJP to welcome into its fold 10 Congress MLAs, calling it a “good” decision, unlike some of his cabinet colleagues. He said that the entry of the 10 MLAs would “strengthen the party.”
“The Congress party is on the path of complete disintegration especially under the kind of leadership that Rahul Gandhi offers to the people of the country,” Rane told reporters at the GMC where he was speaking after another function.
“All over the country, MLAs are deserting the Congress ship because they don’t see any hope,” said Rane. “A politician has to live up to the expectations of his people. If he finds that a party forum is unable to fulfil that promise, the politicians have found BJP as an alternate option to fulfil their vision for their constituency,” he said.
Referring to Gandhi, Rane said, “When the captain of the ship desserts the ship, what is left?” he questioned. “I also left the party because of Rahul Gandhi. He has no vision. He can’t look after his own people,” said Rane referring to Gandhi losing the Lok Sabha seat in Amethi to BJP’s Smriti Irani.
When asked about his father Pratapsing Rane still being with the Congress, Rane declined to comment saying his father’s views were not his views. But said that according to him, even his father must be “totally frustrated” with the Congress leadership.
“I would be happy if he came with me and we were of the same party,” he added.
