Over 100 women from the Mahila Morcha on Wednesday called upon Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Deepali Naik, to condemn the actions of City Councillor Krishna (Daji) Salkar and his group for allegedly insulting her while on duty.
They denounced the actions of Salkar and a mob for allegedly confronting CO Deepali Naik over the removal of an illegal handcart on Friday.
The women complimented Naik for initiating action against the controversial handcarts that are mushrooming in the city, causing inconvenience for pedestrians and vehicles.
While submitting a representation to assure Naik of their support, the Mahila Morcha requested her to initiate disqualification proceeding against Salkar on grounds of insulting a lady officer, obstructing a government officer while discharging her official duty and for creating mob fury in her office.
The Mahila Morcha denounced the presence of some women who were also involved in insulting the chief officer, who was diligently carrying out her duty.
When requested to speak individually by revealing their identities, the women in one voice maintained that they had come to the CO’s office as the women’s wing and would speak in a united voice.
The Morcha members insisted that Salkar should learn to respect women, especially if they are government servants and are lawfully discharging their duty, adding that Salkar should have followed proper procedure by submitting a representation in the way they had done. The Mahila Morcha warned Salkar to behave properly with women, failing which they would stage a rally against him.
