Where are the medical teams promised by the administration to attend to the smoke-affected people of Maina area of Curtorim village? This question echoed around the worst hit Maina area of Curtorim, a day after the state administration promised medical help and check ups in the locality.
While Mallik Amin Nadaf, a resident staying near the Veterinary hospital near Sonsodo got admitted at the Curtorim Primary Health Centre, beleaguered residents of Maina and those staying along the Gandhi road, claimed that no medical teams have yet made their presence felt in the area.
Leave alone the medical teams, residents maintained that the administration did not even distribute face masks to people as a precautionary measure since the time fire broke out at Sonsodo.
Aurola Miranda told the media that residents cannot sleep at night as the smoke has enveloped the entire Maina locality. “Nobody has come with any advice on the precautions measures to be taken by the resident. Since we cannot open our doors and windows for fear of the smoke entering our houses, we feel choked inside”, Miranda said.
She added: “it is all smoky here. We cannot even have proper sleep. I had a sinus problem, which has now been aggravated by this smoke”.
Maria Rosada Fernandes echoed similar sentiments, saying the fire incident has brought a whole lot of problems for the local populace.
Mallik Nadaf pointed out that someone took him to the Curtorim PHC after he faced breathing problem. “I am a heart patient. After smoke descending on my house, I felt a burning sensation”, he said.
