VASCO
An unidentified man in his late fifties was found dead near the Our Lady of Vailankanni Chapel, beside the railway tracks in the drainage area below the Vasco-Sada bridge on Friday.
Vasco police were informed that a man was lying unconscious near the location. A police team went to the spot and found the man unconscious with visible head and body injuries.
It is believed that the man may have fallen off the Vasco-Sada bridge.
The man was shifted to the Sub District Hospital, Chicalim, but was declared dead on arrival.
The body was later sent to the South Goa District Hospital mortuary in Margao for medico-legal formalities.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was a beggar known to frequent the city area and was often found under the influence of alcohol. Police suspect that the man may have accidentally fallen off the bridge due to the absence of a protective crash guard or barrier, leading to fatal injuries.
Vasco police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Mayur Sawant under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
