A car owner had a lucky escape when a piece of cement plaster fell off the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Port Users complex and damaged his Hyundai Creta car purchased only three days earlier.
This incident has prompted occupants of the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Port Users complex to request officials of MPT to carry out urgent renovation of the dilapidated building.
Several port users, including some Custom House Agents, have been allotted offices in the complex and the building even housed the offices of the Coast Guard and coal handling companies like JSW and Adani, which have recently moved out of the complex.
According to sources, the occupants live in fear as the complex has developed cracks at certain locations while some pieces of cement plaster have begun falling off the building.
A source informed that on Wednesday, pieces of cement plaster fell off the Port Users building and damaged a Hyundai Creta car, which was purchased only three days earlier.
“The falling cement plaster fell on the car’s windshield when the car owner was inside the vehicle. By good fortune, the owner was not injured but he has suffered significant losses and mental agony due to damage of his new vehicle,” said the source.
“Such incidents which may cause loss of life and property cannot be ruled out in future as the Port Users complex, which has different offices, is poorly maintained,” said the source.
Many employees in different offices of the building have now appealed to the MPT, especially the Civil and Real Estate department, to intervene and urgently carry out renovation of the building, to protect the lives of staff and visitors using the premises.
