Man held for insulting national flag

The Cuncolim police on Sunday arrested a resident of Chinchinim under the provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

The police action came following a complaint lodged by the Secretary of Chinchinim village panchayat Allaudin Maniyar stating that the resident Malcom Pereira allegedly intentionally unfurled the Indian national flag at the children’s park, Chinchinim, when it was scheduled to be hoisted at the hands of one of the local freedom fighters Joaozinho Furtado on the occasion of the 60th Goa Liberation day.

In his complaint, the panchayat secretary alleged that the incident occurred at around 8.20 am on Sunday at the children’s park when Malcom allegedly unfurled the national flag intentionally and lowered the same for about two meters from the top end of the flag mast.
