Man held for sexual assault on minor girl

Mapusa Police on Wednesday arrested a man on charges of sexually assaulting a minor girl in the suburbs of Mapusa on March 12.

According to police, an unknown man picked up an 8-year-old girl from her area on the pretext of giving her a ride on his bike.   
He took her at 5 pm and left her back in her area after one hour, police said.   
When her parents Inquired about her disappearance, the girl revealed that the unknown man had misbehaved with her.   
From last Sunday, the parents and neighbours along with the girl were waiting to identify the culprit.   
On Wednesday, the accused came in the area and the girl immediately identified him.   
People nabbed the accused and after giving him a sound thrashing handed him over to the police.   
Police arrested the accused, Vasipur Rehman, on charges of sexual assault under Sections 363, 354 and 376 of IPC and Section 8 of Goa Child Act and sections 4,8 and 12 of POCSO act.   
Further investigations are in progress.
