A 23-year-old married man was arrested on charges of raping his 14-year-old relative from Vasco on Friday evening.
According to Mormugao DySP Sucheeta Dessai, the incident came to light when the victim girl, who is staying with her relative, complained to him about her personal problem. The relative rushed the girl to Chicalim Cottage Hospital for medical attention.
Dessai further said the doctor at Chicalim Cottage Hospital after conducting medical examination of the victim told the relative that the girl was three months pregnant. The doctor also alerted the Mormugao Police.
“Acting on the complaint of the doctor of Chicalim Cottage Hospital, Mormugao Police rushed to Chicalim Cottage Hospital and took the victim girl to the police station,” said Dessai.
During interrogation, the minor girl revealed that her relative had raped her, informed Dessai.
Dessai further said Mormugao Police swung into action and arrested the accused under Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and Section 376 of IPC and is investigating the case.
