Man held with 200 grams of charas in Mapusa

MAPUSA:

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Mapusa Police arrested a 44-year-old man in possession of illegal narcotics near the Duler Football Ground, Mapusa.

The accused, identified as Mahesh Suresh Tupkar, a resident of Guirim was caught red-handed with 200 grams of charas, valued at approximately Rs 2,00,000.

The arrest took place on February 27 following a tip-off received by the police. Acting on prior information, a team led by PSI Aditya Gad of Mapusa Police Station conducted a swift operation, leading to the apprehension of Tupkar.

The narcotic substance was seized under a formal panchanama, along with other relevant articles.

Following the seizure, an offence was registered at Mapusa Police Station invoking Section 20 (b) (ii) (B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The accused was formally placed under arrest the same day.
