A routine morning jog turned into a traumatic experience for a British national in Goa, after an encounter with an aggressive dog led to a road accident and severe injuries.
John Michael McCormack, a British national currently residing at Villa Vera in Arpora, lodged a complaint with the police stating that on January 29 at approximately 7.15 am, he was jogging from Arpora to Baga via Calangute. Upon reaching Joema Guest House in Khobra Waddo, Calangute, he noticed two dogs in the property’s garden.
The gate of the guest house was open, and one of the dogs “resembling a Rottweiler “ suddenly charged at him, barking aggressively as if to attack.
In an attempt to evade the dog, McCormack jumped to the side of the road. At that moment, a passing scooter collided with his leg, causing severe injuries.
The matter has been taken up by authorities, with an offence registered under Sections 125(b) and 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
The case has raised concerns about stray and unleashed dogs in the area, as well as the safety of tourists and residents navigating Goa’s busy streets.
