Man sentenced in drugs case

CANACONA: The Canacona JMFC court has sentenced a youth from Patnem-Canacona to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000, after convicting him for possession of drugs.

Canacona police had reportedly acted on a tip-off and arrested Joel Fernandes (29) while moving in a suspicious manner at Patnem in November 2013.

He was found in possession of drugs valued at Rs 10,000 and police had filed a charge sheet in JMFC Court under the NDPS Act.

JMFC Canacona Judge Sarika Phaldessai convicted Fernandes and sentenced him to undergo six months imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, the convict will have to undergo two more months of imprisonment.

Fernandes was immediately picked up by the police soon after the conviction was announced and sent to Sada Sub Jail at Vasco to serve the sentence.

Canacona PSI Prashal Desai investigated the case under the supervision of Canacona PI Philomeno Costa and APP Coleman Rodrigues represented the State.
