PERNEM

Admitting that the Mandrem College of Commerce, Economics and Management never received any grant-in-aid from the State government since it was set up a decade ago, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the government had earlier planned to sanction the grant in six phases but will now release these grants in a single phase.

He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Mandrem College and to mark the 75th birthday of former union minister Ramakant Khalap.

Others present on the occasion included the opposition leader, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte, Mandrem Sarpanch Subhash Asolkar, Director of Higher Education Prasad Lolayekar, Goa University Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni, Mandrem Vikas Parishad Secretary N J Naik, ZP member Satish Shetgaonkar and sarpanchas and panchas of different panchayats.

Insisting that he never brought politics in the field of education, Chief Minister Pramod assured that the Mandrem college shall never face any issues in future.

Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte stated that some vested interests had tried to bring politics into education, due to which the college had suffered for many years.

Replying to his felicitation, former union minister Ramakant Khalap highlighted the various hurdles he had faced while taking the college forward. He also expressed gratitude towards all those who had helped him in whatever way they could.

Khalap has said the Mandrem Vikas Parishad has played an important role as an educational organisation, setting up the college in 2011, besides multiple pre-primary, primary, high school and higher secondary institutes.
