The Mandrem panchayat has opposed the draft zoning plan, accusing the State government of doing injustice to the people of Mandrem by not taking them into confidence.
A memorandum opposing the TCP’s land zoning plan was submitted by the Mandrem Panchayat and local citizens to Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar.
The memorandum states that the plan also does not mention the developmental projects for the village of Mandrem.
“No officer had visited Mandrem Panchayat to explain the repercussions of this plan on the people’s lives and livelihoods. The plan does not have any welfare activities for the locals and hence, we are opposing it,” said Mandrem Sarpanch Adv. Amit Sawant.
“We handed over this memorandum to our MLA Jit Arolkar who has assured to support us strongly and we would take the agitation forward under his leadership.”
Mandrem Sarpanch Adv Amit Sawant handed over the memorandum to Jit Arolkar in the presence of Deputy Sarpanch Tara Hadfadkar, panch members Kiran Sawant, Prashant Naik, Rajesh Manjarekar, Robert Fernandes, Chetana Pednekar, Michael Fernandes, Sampada Ajgaonkar, and others.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar said all panchayats in his constituency, Palaye, Harmal, Mandrem, Morjim, Agarwada, Parse, Tuem and Virnoda have expressed their anguish against the zoning plan and want it cancelled immediately.
“I have suggested a plan for the welfare of the village, and I will stand with them till the end. The proposals of all the panchayats will be submitted to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane,’ said Arolkar.
