The dilapidated Manora-Raia road, which had witnessed protests from local residents on the streets over the state of affairs of the road, will finally get a fresh coat of hot mix within a fortnight.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Tuesday called on senior PWD officials on Tuesday to take a review of the hot mixing work sanctioned by the government. Officials of the PWD, water supply as well as electricity departments were also present during the meeting.
After the meeting, the Curtorim independent MLA told the media that the hot mixing work on the Manora road will be taken up within 15 days. He said it has been decided that the underground cabling will not be taken up since the work was getting delayed.
Reginaldo, however, hastened to add that a small stretch of the Manora road will be left out of the hot mixing work since there’s a water pipeline along the stretch.
Armed with a file on the Manora road hot mixing work, Reginaldo took on his opponents for trying to make political capital out of the road issue. ‘Anyone can take a look at the file and see for themselves how we have been doing the follow up of the work with the government. Some people tried to make a noise on the issue to give an impression that the work is getting done after their protests”, he said.
Requesting the PWD officials to ensure good quality work on the hot mixing of the Manora road, the MLA said he does not want the road to fail again. “We have to give quality work. I do not want anyone to point fingers again over the bad quality”, he said.
In this respect, he told the PWD to use quality and genuine tar so that the road is not washed out again. ‘Since the road work had failed last time round because of duplicate tar, I have insisted on the PWD officials to use good quality tar. I have even asked the officials to take pictures of the container before the seal is broken”, he added.
