Mapusa and Calangute cops arrest three in separate narcotics raids

MAPUSA:

In a major narcotics raid, Mapusa Police arrested two individuals in the early hours of Friday for illegal possession and dealing of narcotic substances.

The operation was conducted at a parking area in Parra following prior intelligence input.

The accused, identified as Sukha Masaka Majhi (29) of Hataganda-Odisha and Chandan Chaitanya Sethi (23) of Khankar-Odisha were caught red-handed with 3.5 kg of ganja valued at approximately ₹3 lakh.

The raid took place between 12.45 am and 3.15 am during which the accused were apprehended for illegal possession and suspected distribution of narcotics. Following their arrest, a case has been registered for offences punishable under Sections 20(b) (ii)(B) and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Authorities have launched further investigations to ascertain the source and network of the illegal drug trade.

In another case, Calangute Police conducted a narcotics raid near a gas station at Naikawado-Calangute on Friday, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old man for drug possession.

The accused, Akhil Mhalaskar of Sangolda, was allegedly found in possession of MDMA valued at ₹2.5 lakh.

Police had received information that a male suspect would be arriving at the location to deliver narcotic substances to prospective customers.

Acting swiftly, a team from Calangute Police Station intercepted the accused and seized the drugs.

A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigations are underway to identify possible links in the drug distribution network.
