MAPUSA
A lackluster float parade in Mapusa brought to an end the four-day rein of King Momo in Goa as hundreds of people lined up to watch the Carnival floats in the city on Tuesday.
Over 40 floats participated in the parade which was flagged off at around 4.30 pm by Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo in the presence of Mapusa Municipal Council chairperson Ryan Braganza, councilors, officials of the civic body and members of Mapusa Carnival Festival Celebration Committee.
Hundreds of revelers lined up along the road from Mapusa Church leading up to the bus-stand to watch the colourful floats.
However, the number of people who came to witness the parade was much less as compared to last
year.
In bid to click selfies, revelers surrounded the floats obstructing and restricting the movement of the floats along the path of the parade even as police watched as bystanders. The floats after winding its way through the streets finally met at the open space near the Bodgeshwar
Temple.
Carnival celebrations in the city were muted this year on account of the death of Mapusa MLA Francisco D’Souza.
While the Mapusa Carnival Committee and Municipal Council decided to hold the float parade, they did away with the annual 4-day cultural bonanza held during carnival week on account of the former MLA’s death.
