At the MMC meeting presided over by the MMC Chairperson Rohan Kavelkar last Friday, it was decided to demolish the old meat shops in the Mapusa market.
On Monday morning, an approval was obtained from the Directorate of Municipal Administration to demolish the structure and the demolitions began late in the evening. The shop owners co-operated with the MMC in the demolition process by evacuating their shops on their own. Some of the 16 shops, eight each on the ground and first floor, were demolished on Monday, while the remaining shops will be razed on Wednesday.
