After almost eight months of issuing a stop-work order, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has now asked the owner of a mini-market at the periphery of Mapusa town to stop all business activities and further directed the civic staff to seal the premises and also seize the materials.
At least 40 stalls and sheds for restaurant and ice cream parlour have been constructed in a private property near the Carvalho Petrol Pump in the jurisdiction of Mapusa municipality.
The technical section of the MMC had conducted an inspection of the property and found that stalls and sheds were constructed illegally and without obtaining permission of the council under Section 184 of Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
The Municipal Engineer in his report observed that the owner Atmaram Gadekar of Canca had constructed 40 stalls besides sheds for restaurant and ice cream parlour near Carvalho Petrol Pump in Mapusa.
The report also mentioned that the entire construction was done illegally without obtaining permission from the council as required by the law.
Based on the technical report, the then Chief Officer had issued a stop-work order on the construction in February this year.
But despite the stoppage order, the owner completed the building of the stalls/sheds and also started various business activities in the stalls without obtaining valid permissions/trade licences from competent authorities.
“Illegal business activities are being carried out in the stalls erected by you without obtaining any prior approvals from this council and from other authorities as required under the Goa Municipalities Act,” said Chief Officer Clen Madeira in his order.
He then directed Municipal Inspectors Vikas Kambli and Shekar Gauns to seal the premises and seize the materials from the stalls on November 1.
