The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) is set to breathe new life into the iconic clock tower situated at the court junction, as plans for its maintenance and refurbishment are underway.
The clock tower, once installed amidst much fanfare, fell into disrepair shortly after its inauguration, leaving it non-functional and casting a negative impression on the city for several years.
Despite the conspicuousness of the structure at a prominent junction, the civic body had previously overlooked its upkeep, exacerbating the neglect of this symbol of civic pride.
However, a recent proposal has injected hope for the restoration of the clock tower and the beautification of its surroundings.
A proposal has been submitted to the MMC, seeking permission to replace the malfunctioning clock and undertake the maintenance of the entire structure.
Aadhvay Ventures Pvt Ltd, the agency behind the proposal, has not only pledged to restore the clock but also to maintain the roundabout and dividers at the junction.
In exchange for their services, Aadhvay Ventures Pvt Ltd has proposed to display the company’s signage as a gesture of acknowledgment for their contribution to the upkeep of the clock tower and the beautification of the court junction.
Nutan Bicholkar, the Chairperson of the MMC, expressed optimism regarding the revival of the clock tower, stating that the council is committed to rectifying the longstanding issue and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the key junction. She further mentioned that efforts are already underway, with the clock being sent for repair.
“We want to put the clock in order and beautify the key junction. The council will soon take a decision on the proposal received by a private agency to replace and maintain the roundabout at the court junction,” Bicholkar affirmed.
With the MMC’s proactive approach and the collaboration with a private agency, the restoration of the court junction clock tower appears imminent, promising a renewed charm to one of Mapusa’s most prominent landmarks.
