Coming under intense pressure, the Mapusa Municipal Council has convened a special meeting today, ostensibly to discuss on the shortage of water in Mapusa.

“The special meeting is to discuss measures to be taken regarding acute water shortage in Mapusa city for the last one week,” said the notice circulated among the councilors.

The PWD EE (water) V M Chavan and Mapusa PWD AE Subhash Belgaonkar have been requested to be present for the council meeting.

Incidentally, only one councillor, Tushar Tople, was present for the public protest at the PWD office on Tuesday.

All the councillors were taken to task by the Mapusa residents due to the water shortage. Many had to shell out from their pockets to hire water tankers and dispense water to areas in their wards.

After protest, parts of Mapusa get

water but at the cost of others

MAPUSA: The morcha to the PWD office and the gherao had an immediate impact  when one section of Mapusa town that did not receive water for the last  five days got supply in the second half of Tuesday.

“Areas of  Khorlim, Dattawadi, Housing Board, Ganeshpuri which did not get a drop  of water for the last so many days got water today,” informed Councilor  Tushar Tople.

However, these areas got water at the cost of other  parts of Mapsua, as places like Duler, Shettya-vaddo, Cunchelim and  Carrasvaddo went completely dry without a drop of water.
