A councillor of the Mapusa Municipal Council is in the dock after the Camurlim panchayat directed him to demolish an illegal structure constructed in the jurisdiction of the panchayat.
The Mapusa councillor, Swapnil Shirodkar, has allegedly constructed a structure to start a dairy business in Survey 156/1 of Camurlim village without obtaining permission from the panchayat and departments concerned.
“The panchayat body has found that you have carried out an illegal construction in the village without having ownership of the property and without obtaining permission from the panchayat or the departments concerned. The panchayat body has unanimously resolved to issue a demolition notice and direct you to demolish the illegal structure in the village,” said Chetan Shirodkar, Secretary of VP Camurlim, in a notice issued to the councillor.
The panchayat has directed the councillor to demolish the structure within 15 days or else the village panchayat will carry out the demolition and recover the necessary costs from him.
The demolition notice was issued on February 8 under Section 47 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1994 and in pursuance of resolution passed by the panchayat body on January 28.
Acting on a complaint of Jawaharlal Shetye, a resident of Khorlim-Mapusa, the panchayat conducted an inspection of the structure and later issued a show-cause notice to councillor Swapnil Shirodkar as to why the structure should not be demolished.
The panchayat body decided to issue the demolition notice after the reply to the show-cause notice was found unsatisfactory.
