Claiming that independents would play a crucial role as no single party would obtain a clear majority in the elections, former deputy speaker and independent candidate Isidore Fernandes on Wednesday said he had been receiving calls from the BJP and Congress for his support in the formation of the next government.
“I am 101% sure of my victory and I have already started receiving calls from BJP and Congress leaders seeking my assurance to support them if they form the next government. Support from independents will be crucial to form the next government since no party will get a majority of its own,” said Fernandes, while speaking to The Goan at his residence in Peddem-Loliem.
“I have declined calls from BJP leaders inviting me to Panaji and told them that I would see them only after March 10 (counting of votes).”
Meanwhile, most candidates were found relaxing on Tuesday and Wednesday, after a hectic and intense campaign at the elections.
Some candidates had even kept their mobiles switched off for most of the day, while the others preferred to relax at their homes.
