NCP confident of winning at least four seats

VASCO

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is confident of winning a minimum of 4 seats in the recently concluded assembly elections.

NCP State President and former minister Jose Philip D'Souza said while the party had contested 12 seats across Goa, they were confident that NCP would win four seats in Dabolim, Navelim, Nuvem and Velim constituency.

"We are sure of winning these four seats but had also received overwhelming response from voters in the other seats that had contested. Many parties have contested the elections and I foresee that none of these parties can achieve full majority and get 22-plus seats,” said D’Souza, while speaking to reporters.

D'Souza hit out at the Congress for ignoring public demands for an alliance with like-minded parties to dethrone the BJP.

“The Congress was adamant and spoilt the biggest opportunity available as there was an anti-incumbency wave against the BJP. There was a good chance to dethrone the BJP and the public had demanded an alliance of like-minded parties, but we are not sure why Congress leaders chose otherwise.

D'Souza claimed that even though the Congress had refused an alliance with NCP, he had the supported the Congress candidate in Vasco.

"I did not want secular votes to be divided and I requested all party workers, friends and residents of Kharewado to support the Vasco Congress candidate, Carlos Almeida.”

D’Souza said people from Dabolim had voted for him and not his party.

“Other contestants had to depend on party workers and could get votes for their party symbols, but not on their own personal identity. Dabolim voters know that I am available to them 24x7," Said D’Souza.
