A Mapusa court convicted an Indian tourist for driving under the influence of alcohol in the beach village of Calangute and sentenced him to pay a fine of Rs 11,500, even as police booked 13 cases under drink and drive in the coastal village from Oct 1 to15.
And if the accused defaulted in paying the fine then he has to undergo simple imprisonment of 30 days.
The accused has been identified as Revanath Musale of Maharashtra.
During a routine traffic bandobast last Thursday, Calangute Police found that the accused had consumed alcohol 102.8mg/100 ml which is much beyond the permissible level for driving.
Accordingly, the accused was booked under section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and other relevant sections.
During the hearing the accused pleaded guilty.
Calangute Police informed that the accused has deposited the fine amount in the court.
