The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the local police on Monday conducted a mock drill exercise at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in view of the upcoming National Games.
Besides some sporting events scheduled at the Taleigao stadium, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be at the venue for the inauguration on October 26.
“It’s a routine exercise ahead of any national or international event, and since the PM will inaugurate the Games from the venue, the drill was crucial,” an ATS official said.
A similar exercise will be held across 28 venues where other Games will be held from October 25 to November 9.
Besides, the Goa Police organised a week-long joint counter-terrorism exercise between Force One Commandos, Mumbai and the Goa ATS commandos at Altinho.
“Coordination among the commandos, weapon handling, firing capabilities, etc are important during any emergency and such exercises are important,” the official said.
