A businessman from Mapusa who was seriously injured in a hit and run accident along the Guirim-Peddem NH-66 stretch died while undergoing treatment early Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Narvekar (62) from Colvale.
Mapusa Police have arrested car driver Adv. Milind Naik Desai who allegedly knocked down the deceased and fled from the spot without attending to the injured.
According to police, Narvekar was travelling from Porvorim to Mapusa on his bike when he was hit by a car from behind at around 11.30 pm on the national highway between Guirim and Peddem.
While the rider was flung on the road with the impact, the car driver allegedly fled from the scene leaving injured Narvekar on the road.
Narvekar was later first moved to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa and later shifted to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim where he succumbed to his injuries.
After conducting an autopsy, the body of the deceased was handed over to the family later in the day.
Since the car driver involved in the accident was not arrested till late in the morning, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik along with his supporters rushed to the Mapusa Police Station and demanded the driver’s immediate arrest.
He also condemned the driver’s attitude for not attending to the injured rider.
