Mapusa garment shop goes up in flames

Property worth an estimated Rs 5 lakh was destroyed after a garment shop in Mapusa municipal market caught fire on Friday noon.  

The fire at M R Textile Readymade Garment Shop (Stall 199) in the municipal market was reported at around 2.40 pm.  

On receiving information, a fire tender rushed to the municipal market and doused the flames saving property of around Rs 20 lakh, fire official informed. According to sources, a short circuit triggered the fire which spread quickly and destroyed several readymade garments inside the shop.  

Readymade garments for men like jeans, shirts, pants were destroyed in the fire.  

Further investigation is in progress.
