When we explain to customers that they will have to pay 3 percent GST they move away,” said Mahendra Tar, a goldsmith in Mapusa market. rAccording to Tar, customers shy away paying the 3 percent tax imposed by the government and the new taxation regime may take time to sink in. r“It may take some time before people get accustomed to the new taxation policy, but till then our business will suffer,” he lamented. rIn the popular Mapusa market, it was business as usual with many yet to get new bill books as per new taxation policy. r“For the moment, I have started keeping record in writing of goods sold to customers which will be later assessed appropriately. Very soon, I will get a computer and install software that is GST compliant so that all goods sold could be appropriately slotted as per the GST slab,” said John D’Souza, proprietor of Vithal Stores, a popular food store in Mapusa market.
Mapusa goldsmiths uncomfortable
Goldsmiths appear to have been hit hard even as it was business as usual in Mapusa market on Saturday, as small traders and businessmen were trying to rnweigh in the impact of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on their business.
