Mapusa has stagnated for 20 years: AAP

Asks BJP to bring white paper on development works carried out in town

MAPUSA

Slamming the BJP for doing no development in Mapusa for almost two decades, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State Convenor, Rahul Mhambre said the works announced by the local MLA on Monday figured on the BJP manifesto for the last 20 years.
Mhambre, on Tuesday, also demanded that the BJP should come out with a white paper on the development works carried by its government in Mapusa.
“The works of Rs 140 crore announced by MLA Joshua D’Souza are the same works which have been repeatedly reflecting on the BJP manifesto for the last 20 years. There is nothing new in it,” Mhambre said and blamed the local MLA and the BJP for the sad state of affairs in Mapusa.
The AAP State Convenor along with AAP leader, Sunil Signapurkar and Emiliano Rebello was addressing the media in Mapusa office.
Continuing, Mhambre said work on the sewerage project began from 2012 and after spending more than Rs 150 crore the project has still not become operational.
“Even as the sewage plant remains un-operational, the sewage is being in the gutters turning the Mapusa Tar River into a sewer,” he said.
He also said while the MLA said that the government was taking up construction of the Saraswat school ground costing Rs 2.5 crore, the street lights near the school were not functioning and the area was infested with garbage.
The AAP convenor also slammed the local MLA over the piecemeal works taken up on the new bus-stand in Mapusa.
“What does the MLA mean by interim bus-stand? The bus-stand work appears to be a joke on the people of Mapusa,” he said.
Mhambre also blamed Congress leader Sudhir Kandolkar for the sorry state of the Mapusa town.
“Sudhir Kandolkar who was a councilor and chairperson for several years is equally responsible along with the past and present MLA for the mess in Mapusa. Both Sudhir and Joshua should admit that they have failed,” he said.
He said everyone wanted to see a change in Mapusa and AAP would definitely offer to be the alternative for Mapxekars.
AAP leader, Sunil Signapurkar said that in the last election people voted for Congress but the government was formed by the BJP.
“People are fed up with the Congress and BJP. They believe AAP is the only alternative party which will work for the betterment of the Goans,” Signapurkar said.
He said there were several issues in Mapusa like irregular power and water supply and lack of parking facilities.
