OLD GOA

Two days after organizing a massive morcha involving over three thousand protestors, like-minded people have now decided to go on fast outside the Se Cathedral church complex, from Wednesday in protest against the failure of the government to initiate action against the structure.

Speaking to the reporters, Adv Andrea Mascarenhas informed that the fast will begin from 8 am and conclude at 6 pm, outside the main gate of the Se Cathedral, opposite the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

Incidentally, the fast coincides with the first day of the novena of St Francis Xavier which will commence from 5 am.

“Many people questioned us why they cannot take law in their own hands and demolish the structure. Even we are frustrated over inaction of the government authorities. But violence is an act of cowards. And, we Goans are not cowards. We are righteous people and will go by the righteous way and that is Mahatma Gandhi’s way of Satyagraha,” Mascarenhas stated.

“Tomorrow the Goans are going to come together and sit outside the main gate of Se Cathedral, opposite the Basilica, from 8 am to 6 pm, fasting and praying,” she added.

‘Praying that the government realizes the first degree fraud that has been done in connivance with a political party in giving permissions to the structure and demolish the same,” Mascarenhas informed and stated that Goans from all walks of life will sit at the fast, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

When questioned on the longevity of the strike, Mascarenhas said that decision has been taken only to start the fast. “We have not decided as of now how long it will last,” she added.

Aruna Wagh came down on statement of a BJP leader that the issue is a local issue.

“This is not a local issue as claimed by a BJP leader as its national leader is involved in the illegal act within precincts of an international monument,” Wagh stated and urged for immediate resolution to the issue.
