After the men started the chain hunger strike, the women took over as kiosk owner Shakuntala Chodankar and fruit vendor Sarita Shirvoikar continued the strike on Tuesday.
It may be recalled that the displaced GMC kiosk owners and fruits/vegetables vendors have gone on chain hunger strike from Monday as work on their rehabilitation plan did not start as promised.
Speaking to the reporters, one of the women who continued the strike Chodankar informed that though they have faith that their rehabilitation would one day become a reality, they will continue their chain hunger strike till the wall is demolished.
“It’s around five months now and our livelihood is affected due to which we are finding it difficult to make both ends meet,” Chodankar said while pleading to the government to have mercy and rehabilitate them at the earliest.
The majority among the striking kiosk owners and vendors are women of which many are senior citizens, including Shakuntala Dhargalkar and Anusaya Khandeparkar who are both 70 years old.
Meanwhile, the participants at the strike tried to set aside the gloom by listening to songs and humming along in the hope that their rehabilitation will become a reality soon.
