People of Mapusa paid tribute to late Bismarque Dias by taking part in a candlelight vigil on Thursday evening.
A rally with about 300 people with candles in their hands started off from St Jerome’s Church after holding a short prayer service near the church. The rally wound its way through the market and finally culminated at St Joseph’s Chapel, Ansabhatt.
The musicians belonging to the group 'Musical Warriors' sang a couple of songs near the chapel paying tribute to Bismarque.
Speaking on the occasion, Sudesh Tivrekar of Mapusa People’s Union said although he never met Bismarque in person he read a lot of him on the newspapers and admired his courage to take on the high and mighty in his fight for justice.
Jawahar Shetye of Mapusa People’s Union and Zico Rodrigues of the Musical Warriors also spoke on the occasion.
Mapusa Parish Priest Fr Denis Fernandes and the two assistant parish priests were also present for the night vigil.
