MAPUSA:
The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has restored the internet service of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), thereby resuming online services and facilities which had been disrupted for over a week.
The electricity department had cut off TV and internet cables which were placed on electricity poles in Mapusa city on January 18 and the internet cable provided by the NIC as part of the Digital India to the MMC had also been cut off.
This led to a disruption in online services at the municipal office, such as birth and death certificates, business license tax, house rent tax, house rent transfer and renewal, electricity and water NOC, construction license, house repair license, occupancy certificate, approval letter for government schemes and income certificates.
This disruption had affected hundreds of people who had been visiting the municipal office for online services on a daily basis.
On Wednesday, the MMC got in touch with the electricity department and NIC for an urgent solution in the matter.
NIC officials resumed internet connection to the MMC at about 3 pm on Wednesday, thereby restoring online services in the MMC.
Municipal sources informed that all online transactions in the council will continue smoothly from Thursday.
