Mapusa police issues advisory to sarvajanik Ganesh mandals

Health officials in the State and across the country have warned that festivals could become potential super spreader events if a large number of people are allowed to celebrate together.

With several sarvajanik Ganesh pandals expected to be set up during the festival, Mapusa Police has focused on security and maintaining discipline at the pandals.

Police have released detailed advisories amongst the organizers of the sarvajanik Ganesh mandals during the ongoing festival and at the immersion time.

Mapusa Police have appealed not to burst firecrackers in public places and avoid playing loud music late at night during the festival.

Police have also advised people not to leave cash and jewellery inside their closed houses when they will be away for the Ganesh festival.

Mapusa PI, Tushar Lotlikar has requested the organizers to install CCTV cameras, make arrangements for volunteers and ensure a proper entry and exit system.

He said police personnel will be deployed at various venues of sarvajanik Ganesh pandals but suggested that the organisers should also explore the option of hiring private security, particularly at night.

It was suggested that sufficient volunteers have to be available at all times to guide people who visit the pandal and parking arrangements should be made away from the pandals.

The organisers have also been asked to ensure that vehicles are parked far away from the pandal.

The advisory also urged the organizers not to play loud music at late night or early morning which will disturb the public tranquillity.

They have been further requested not to allow the bursting of firecrackers/fireworks in public places such as markets, hospitals, bus stands etc.

Last year, on account of the Covid first wave, most sarvajanik mandals had carried out Visarjan after just one and half-day celebration.
