Within 24 hours of receiving a complaint, two persons were arrested for stealing metal centering plates worth Rs 1 lakh.
The accused duo Rajuel Shaikh (21), resident of Merces and Bipul Biswas (41) native of West Bengal but residing at Merces were arrested after they admitted of their involvement in the crime, Mapusa Police informed.
Police recovered the stolen property which was kept in Merces while a mini tempo used to transport the metal centering plates has been attached.
According to the complainant Henrique Cardozo the accused stole 45 metal centering plates which were fixed to a road side retaining wall belonging to a construction company in the wee hours of Saturday (July 31).
Mapusa Police swung into action and after meticulous planning intercepted the Tata Ace good carrier mini tempo bearing registration no GA-01-T-7659 along with the two accused in Merces.
The two accused admitted of having committed the crime during interrogation, police informed. The following police officials “ HC Umesh Naik, PC Vishnu Haldankar, Navin Shirodkar and Dhiraj Mane were involved in the operation to apprehend the accused.
Further investigation is being carried out by HC Umesh Naik under the supervision of PI Tushar Lotlikar and Bicholim SDPO Sandesh Chodankar, who hold additional charge of Mapusa SDPO.
