MAPUSA
The Mapusa police has written to the Water Resource Department and Deputy Collector to put barricades around all the ponds that come under Mapusa police station jurisdiction.
The demand was made after two siblings lost their lives when they went to pluck lotuses in a pond at Naika Vaddo in Verla on January 27, 2021.
Even though the pond at Verla has barricades around it, the steps leading towards the pond has no barrier. A copy of this letter has also been sent to the Mamlatdar.
Meanwhile, the incident which occurred on Jan 27, 2021, was discussed in a meeting held at Verla-Canca panchayat. Nicole Marques, daughter of former sarpanch Milton Marques, has expressed willingness to build a gate-cum-barricade at the Verla pond with her funds.
