The Mapusa Merchants Association (MA) on Tuesday slammed civic body for failing to keep its word of providing basic facilities in the Mapusa municipal market. Several members of the MMA said that the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has only been making assurances but failed to deliver.
Siddesh Raut Secretary of MMA, highlighted several issues while presenting a memorandum to the chairperson Priya Mishal.
"For the last several years we have been raising the issue of unauthorised vendors who have been occupying every space in the market making it difficult for people to walk. Even a fire tender cannot make its way into the market during emergency," said Siddesh Raut,
Raut also said the toilets were not functioning properly while the illumination at night was far from satisfactory.
While assuring to take up the issues raised by the traders, the Mapusa Chairperson, requested members to join the town vending committee meeting to thrash out the vendors issue.
