The three-day Carnival festivities centred on Göychi Lok-Porompora and Göyche Matiechi Kola will kick-start in the commercial capital from February 25.
While carnival programme will be hosted at the Margao Municipal square on the first two days of the festival, the festivities will culminate in a grand carnival parade in the city on February 27.
The highlight of the three-day festivities is the live performance by Musician Bondo, who will also conduct a workshop for budding artists on February 26 evening at the MMC square.
Addressing the media, Chairperson of the Margao Carnival Committee, Margao Municipal Chief Officer, Agnelo Fernandes said the organisers have this year made a concerted attempt to bring the Intruz of yesteryears back to the fore again.
“Our theme is centered on Göychi Lok-Porompora and Göyche Matiechi Kola. Besides, we have decided to revive the Zomivello khel concept, wherein the traditional carnival khell-tiatr will be staged across the 25 Margao Municipal wards,” he told the media in the presence of committee members, Municipal engineers, Manoj Arsekar and Vishant Naik.
In this respect, the Carnival Committee chairperson unveiled the Carnival logo and also released the Carnival song centered on Margao Carnival composed by Jose D’Costa.
Agnelo said the float parade will be held in the city on February 27 on the parade route from the district Court building to the Borkar Super stores, near the Nehru stadium.
Floats can participate in six categories, Traditional, Club/Institution, Family, Fun Junk, and Clown/Joker and sponsored.
He said the entry forms together with terms and conditions for participation can be collected from the office of the Margao Municipal Council office or downloaded from the Tourism Department website www.goatourism.gov.in and will also be made available on entry counter on the day of float.
Each float is required to be compulsorily accompanied by music that could include traditional musical instruments, recorded music, brass band, and live music among others.
Participants in all floats across all categories must be dressed in Carnival costumes, he said, adding that participants wearing plain T-shirts or shirts with commercial logos will not be allowed to participate in the floats.
He said the use of animals, offensive, vulgar, indecent, or obscene display whether in dress, performance or gesture is prohibited. Depicting any religious scenes or deities with the intention to hurt religious sentiments is also prohibited.
No liquor, drugs, or lethal weapons will be permitted to be carried on the floats.
The Chief Officer has appealed to the people at large to adhere to the Covid-19 pandemic protocol at the venue.
Carnival programmes, including a host of competitions and programmes, will be held at the Margao Municipal square on February 25 & 26 from 5 pm.
