Margao dog shelter affected by floodwaters

MARGAO

The Margao dog shelter, run by a city-based NGO on behalf of the Margao Municipal Council at Sonsodo, was flooded throughout Tuesday.

Making things worse for the shelter workers was the presence of snakes that came in with the water.

Animal lover Sandra Fernandes, who was keeping an eye on the situation, said there are about 40 stray dogs currently at the shelter. “We have moved the dogs to the cages which are not affected by the water. Only the cages which are kept at the shelter to meet emergencies has been affected by the water,” she said.

Sandra said the flooding happened because of road digging done by the authorities to lay underground lines. She added that the road has not been fixed properly since then.

“We have been following up the matter with the authorities since January, but in vain,” Sandra said.
