With the dengue situation showing no signs of abating in the commercial capital, Margao Urban Health officials knocked the door of the district authorities for help and assistance to tackle the outbreak head on.
While promising support, Additional district Collector Prasanna Acharya has decided to convene a high level meeting of various agencies early next week in an attempt to get on the ground in the battle against dengue.
The joint meeting is expected to be attended by officials of the Health, PWD Sewerage, Water Resources Department, Margao Municipal Council, besides other agencies. Margao Urban Health Officer Dr Anju Kharangate briefed the Additional Collector on the prevailing dengue situation in the city and how the ongoing operation has been hit by shortage of manpower and vehicles.
She is believed to have underscored the urgent need for additional labourers in the ongoing campaign against the disease. The attention of the Additional Collector was also drawn to other logistics support required by the Health department, including vehicles to transport men and equipments to the different Municipal wards.
The Margao Urban Health Centre is presently equipped with a lone jeep, hampering the movement of men and machinery. After giving the Urban Health Officer a hearing, the Additional Collector promised all help and assistance to the Urban Health Centre, even calling Margao Municipal authorities to ascertain the availability of vehicles for the anti-dengue exercise.
Acharya is believed to have assured the health officer that directions will be issued to the agencies to get their act together and join in the battle against dengue.
Community health centre on alert over suspected dengue case in Bicholim
BICHOLIM: Bicholim health authorities have been on alert after a case of suspected dengue has been reported in Bicholim.
According to sources, a case of suspected dengue was reported in Mulgao-Bicholim last week, when a schoolgirl took ill.
The schoolgirl was admitted at Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim and the GMC reportedly sent a mail to the Bicholim Community Health Centre (CHC) on Wednesday, alerting them of the case.
When contacted, Bicholim CHC Health Officer Dr Medha Salkar confirmed that the CHC had received an email from the GMC hospital regarding the case of suspected dengue.
“We were informed because the patient is from Bicholim area. Acting on the mail, Bicholim CHC health workers visited Mulgao and surveyed the area and interacted with people in the surrounding area, but found there were no dengue cases in the vicinity,” said Dr Salkar.
Dr Salkar said the CHC would, nevertheless, take precautionary measures by fumigating the school in Bicholim, where the girl has been attending classes, as well as in Mulgao and other parts of Bicholim.
