There are lot of difference of opinions regarding the convocation ceremony as well as the re-checking and re-evaluation of the answer sheets. However, sources say that every year Goa University earns revenue in crores through these. The amount that goes from the pockets of the students is now becoming the prime source of revenue collection for the university.
Sandip Haldankar received this information from the Goa University after filing an RTI application.
These figures are very surprising. Recently, GU declared the new fee structure. This new fee structure has slight changes in the amount of fees. The amount charged for participating in the convocation ceremony from professional course graduates is Rs 1890 and from the non-professional graduates is Rs 810.
According to the information received under RTI, Goa University collected a whopping Rs 3,37,63,899 during the nine years between 2009 and 2018. And the total amount spent on the convocation ceremonies during these nine years was only Rs 52,60,740. The amount collected in the academic year 2009-10 was Rs 3,47,000 and in 2017-18 it is Rs 48,89,000. Since the convocation ceremony has become a prestigious event, the number of students who participate in it has increased.
According to the information received from the university, during the same period of nine years (2009-10 to 2017-18), re-checking and re-evaluation of the answer papers brought in Rs 5,43,72,608 as revenue.
