BELAGAVI
Miffed at the poor response to the Vasco-Belagavi train, South Western Railway (SWR) authorities have decided to reduce the number of bogies.
According to an SWR press release, the train that used to run with eight general second-class bogies and two brake-cum-luggage vans will now run with only four general second-class bogies and one luggage-cum- brake van with effect from October 11.
The train that ran twice a week on Friday and Saturday in June amid much fanfare, was expected to get an overwhelming response.
However, the officials failed to conduct a preliminary survey of the demand for this train. The result was poor response.
The timings of the train that used to leave Belagavi in the morning and return from Vasco in the noon, had to be changed vice versa
following demands from commuters in Goa.
According to SWR sources, the train is receiving a very lukewarm response, especially from Goans, who prefer to travel by road.
According to commuters in Belagavi, the train leaves at around 3 pm and takes over 6 hours to reach Vasco, which is a very long and inconvenient journey as it reaches Vasco very late.
